Ed’s furniture career started when he was 19 years old as a driver’s helper, delivering furniture. Over the next three years, he learned repair, refinishing, and upholstery. At age 22, the store that he was working for closed their doors. With just $3000 from money he had received as gifts from his recent marriage and a small loan, Chariho Furniture was formed in a small garage in Richmond RI at the showroom’s current location. Since 1987, Chariho Furniture has grown to now serve customers all over the USA and beyond with customers throughout New England and as far as Florida and California. Internationally, Chariho has also shipped as far as Tortola and Singapore. Although this is beyond Ed’s wildest dreams with the modest investment made, Chariho continues to grow under his leadership along with his current business partner, daughter, Stephanie Smith. Having a background in every aspect of the industry, Ed has spent years developing his own knowledge traveling to countless furniture workshops, factories, and markets, including over 50 trips to the International Furniture market in North Carolina. He is certified by The Furniture Training Company as a Furniture and Design Expert. Ed serves and has served on many non-profit boards including the Ocean Community YMCA, including Chairman of the board, The Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce, Westerly Hospital Board of Trustees and is a long-time member and three-time past president of the Chariho Rotary Club. He has been selected as the New England Furniture Retailer of the Year, Chariho Rotarian of the year, Volunteer of the year by the Ocean Community YMCA and Citizen of the Year by the Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce.

Born into a furniture environment, Stephanie was never encouraged or discouraged to partake in the family business her father had started in 1987. Growing up, she was in and out of Chariho Furniture like it was her second home. Attending Rhode Island College and bartending on the side, Stephanie decided to work part time at the store to see if it would be a career interest. After graduating in 2014, Stephanie started working full time and took the place of her Grandmother who was ready to retire. Continuously learning and being inspired by the industry, Stephanie tackles any task that is a part of Chariho Furniture. With her Psychology Degree, developing relationships and understanding clients is what she strives to accomplish. After visiting numerous factories, attending the International Furniture market semi-annually, she has a desire to continue the family business. She handles daily tasks as well as anything that needs to be done! Stephanie has also completed the Furniture & Room Design Specialist certificate program with The Furniture Training Company.

Jess has always known that she wanted to style interiors and has been doing so for the past 20 years. She had studied interior design with the Art Institute of Pittsburg and her background includes residential staging and retail space planning. Her journey began in 2014 with Chariho Furniture as a designer and sales manager. She works hard to listen to her clients needs to create functional and beautiful rooms.

Sandy graduated from Paier School of Art in Hamden, CT completing the courses for Interior Design. She and her husband owned their own business for 16 years. She has completed the Furniture & Room Design Specialist certificate program with The Furniture Training Company. Sandy prides herself in listening to the client’s needs and assists them in satisfying those needs so that when they leave Chariho Furniture they are happy and “can’t wait for their new furniture”.

Brenda joined the Chariho design team in 2016. She previously worked in floor covering for over 20 years. She has also completed the Furniture & Room Design Specialist certificate program with The Furniture Training Company. With 20 years of customer service and being extremely detailed, Brenda can bring together any room.

Todd came to Chariho Furniture in 2018. With over 15 years of experience as a district visual manager for a major furniture and home furnishings retailer, he is great with clients needs. “I’ve always loved working in the furniture industry. Just like fashion it’s always changing and ever evolving. My experience in store design and visual merchandising has given me experience when putting together rooms and spaces for my clients.” Todd understands that furniture is a reflection of his client’s personality, style, and lifestyle.

Sherry joined Chariho Furniture in 2021 with over 18 years of Retail Home Furnishings management. In addition to sales, she lead visual merchandise teams to execute seasonal showroom displays and sales events delivered with passion and enthusiasm. Interior Design is a true love and passion for Sherry. Working with colors, fabrics, furniture and textures in your design plan is treated with great care. Attention to details and the client’s tastes are all part of the solution and she looks forward to assisting you with your room design.

Kathleen joined Chariho Furniture in 2023 with twelve years as an ingenious, visual merchandiser and stylist for a home interiors furniture and accessories store. Her experience includes sales and leasing of condominiums and apartments designing the interiors of kitchens and baths from cabinetry to flooring, paint finishes, appliances and lighting. Her world class customer accommodation and tenacious passion for decorating is the key to helping you unlock your dreams of your perfect space.
